Qumran, the Dead Sea Scrolls Revealed in OrleansPosted by: Michael Langlois in ConferencesDue to the success of the “Bible Facing Archaeology” conference in Orleans, a new conference is in order. The large hall will welcome both those who could not come in the first time, and those who want to continue the adventure! Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 6 PMat Joan of Arc Church (Bd Riobé, Orleans)I will speak about the most important archaeological discovery of the 20th century: Qumran. What do these mysterious scrolls contain? Who wrote them? Why weren’t they immediately available to the public? What do they reveal on the birth of the Bible and Christianity? A good amount of time will be left for questions in the audience. — The invention of writing profoundly changed mankind’s relation to the divine. It enabled religions to develop and adopt sacred Scriptures, with a varied status in different places or eras. Origin of Writing—Origin of ScripturesWednesday, January 25, 2012 at 8:15 PM, Robertsau Protestant Parish, 86 rue Boecklin, 67000 StrasbourgWe will also discuss the “religions of the book,” and especially the relationship of various Jewish and Christian communities to the “Bible.”
The organization committee of the “Bible, Heritage of Mankind” exhibition, in Orleans on Jan. 14 – Feb. 5, asked me to give a conference on: The Bible Facing ArchaeologyWhat do archaeological discoveries teach us on the Bible?
